Join Epicurean Exchange Culinary Travel on one of our week-long tours to the colonial gem of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Cradled in Mexico’s central highlands three hours north of Mexico City, this art-centric colonial city expresses a rich heritage and enchanting colonial spirit. High in the cool hills, this welcoming city of cobblestone streets and picturesque churches inspires artists with its color, character, and light. Founded in 1542, the city is a mix of Hispanic and Mesoamerican influences.

During our weeklong stays, experience city walking and street food tours, authentic cooking classes with local chefs, visiting archeological sites, and meeting local craftsmen and artists during the lively “Day of Dead” celebrations.

DAY-BY-DAY-ITINERARY

  • DAY 1 - Saturday, October 31: LÉON / DOLORES HIDALGO

    Group transfers from Léon/Guanajuato airport to our luxury hacienda in the resort community of Dolores Hidalgo. Time to unpack and settle in. Enjoy a special welcome dinner presented by a local chef and their team.

  • DAY 2 - Sunday, November 1: SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

    Breakfast at the hacienda. City walking tour of San Miguel de Allende with local historian. Tequila tasting and food pairing experience at Casa Dragones. Dinner at celebrated Nomada restaurant in the Centro.

  • DAY 3 - Monday, November 2: CAÑADA DE LA VIRGEN

    Breakfast at the hacienda. A full-day visit to Cañada de la Virgen, a 40-acre archaeological site and nature preserve with Albert Coffee Archaeotours. Located 15 miles from the center of San Miguel de Allende, the site is explored with experienced and highly-qualified archaeologist-guides who are constantly uncovering the pre-Hispanic history of Mexico. Dinner with tour before returning to the hacienda.

  • DAY 4 - Tuesday, November 3: GUANAJUATO

    Breakfast at the hacienda. A full-day visit to the capital city of Guanajuato. Join our experienced partnering city guide as we explore this colonial masterpiece complete with city walking tour, lunch, and shopping. An afternoon visit to Diego Rivera’s home. Dinner in the city before returning to the hacienda.

  • DAY 5 - Wednesday, November 4: SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

    Breakfast at the hacienda. Cooking class in SMA at Marilau Mexican Ancestry Cooking School, by Marilau herself, one of the most celebrated cooking teachers in the area. We will take part in a hands-on tamale-making class and enjoy a full lunch based on our efforts! We will return home for a free afternoon at the hacienda.

  • DAY 6 - Thursday, November 5: DOLORES HIDALGO / LOS CHARCOS

    Breakfast at the hacienda. Full day at the hacienda to sleep in; relax by the pool. A taco truck will be ordered to provide lunch and beverages. Massages will be arranged (for an additional charge). In the evening we will visit our neighbors (and former Lamorindans), Michael Freidman and Susan Uhl at their beautiful home in nearby Los Charcos. We will participate in creating an extraordinary Mexican meal and enjoy music and traditional dancing from local performers.

  • DAY 7 - Friday, November 6: SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

    Breakfast at the hacienda. Full day in San Miguel de Allende Centro. Free time for sightseeing and shopping. Afternoon cooking class and lunch with Chef Andrés Trillo at the Dôce18 Concept House in Colonia Centro. Farewell dinner together before returning to the hacienda to pack for departures.

  • DAY 8 - Saturday, November 7: DEPARTURE / TRAVEL DAY

    Breakfast at the hacienda. Transfers to Léon/Guanajuato airport for departures.

COSTS

Airfare

Guests to purchase own airfare using miles and preferred class and upgrades. Flight and arrival times will be coordinated. Group transfers from León/Guanajuato airport to our luxury hacienda in Dolores Hidalgo. Guests are free to arrive earlier or stay longer than the published itinerary, but are responsible to meet the group at stated times.

TRAVEL INSURANCE IS MANDATORY.

Epicurean Exchange Culinary Travel, in a effort to make travel with us thorough and stress-free, is partnering with Yonder Travel Insurance, a travel insurance comparison website where you can get quotes and compare travel insurance options from the nation’s top providers. Most travel insurance policies cover trip cancellation, emergency medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation and other travel loss/delay headaches.

Every travel insurance policy has a 24/7 emergency assistance number for medical and travel emergencies that may occur during the trip. Travel insurance brings extra peace of mind while you’re abroad!

Travel Insurance FAQs

Ground Costs Included

• Transfers from León/Guanajuato airport to Dolores Hidalgo at the beginning of the tour, and return to León/Guanajuato airport (or the transportation mode of choice) at the conclusion of the tour
• Transportation available throughout the tour
• 7 nights lodgings in luxury accommodations
• Private dinners in specially-selected restaurants, beverages included (except where indicated)
• 3 private cooking classes with meals prepared
• 2 private wine tours and tastings in exclusive wineries
• Professional, local guides with knowledge of the secrets and stories of the region

Ground Costs Not Included

• Round trip airfare
• Cancellation insurance
• Personal expenses and tips

Inclusive Tour Ground Cost (per person, double occupancy):  $3,895.00; Single Supplement:  $695.00

Deposit Due (per person) to Secure Reservation: $1,950.00

Balance Due (per person), on or before August 31, 2026:  $1,945.00

Balance Due for Single Travelers (to include the supplement) on or before August 31, 2026:  $2640.00

Payments: Cash or checks, payable to Epicurean Exchange, accepted. Electronic invoices available for credit / debit card payments.
Cancellation Policy: We are willing to work with all our guests should situations arise that require guests to cancel plans with us. Please understand we have guidelines to ensure that both the operator and our guests are treated fairly. With that, travel insurance is MANDATORY, to reimburse you should cancellation be necessary. Epicurean Exchange reserves the right to cancel a tour due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the trip non-viable. Deposits and balances paid will be refunded if the trip is canceled by the operator. Travelers can cancel up to 60 days prior to departure and receive a full refund of their deposit. Understand that as a small, boutique operator, even one last-minute cancellation can be an issue for the operator and other travelers. Therefore, after deposits and tour balances are received (60 days or less prior to departure) they are non-refundable. Travelers have the option to recruit another traveler to take their place or file with their insurance carrier to recover costs of the trip.
